Partnering to support second language learners during the pandemic

A team of researchers, led by Guofang Li, recently published an article in the Globe and Mail on the innovative practices of teachers and parents during the pandemic. Co-authors Roksana Dobrin-De Grâce, Zhuo Sun, Meishi Haslip, Diana Burchell, Julia Rivard Dexter and Xi Becky Chen.

Second language learners need both social and academic language to nurture their growth. Finding the right balance, especially during the pandemic, has been challenging but not impossible, as Guofang Li and team reports. Parents and teachers have been using creative strategies along with “strong communication and partnership” to ensure their children get the right amount of input.
