Literacy

This theme is led by Hélène Deacon, Dalhousie, and Xi Becky Chen, University of Toronto (OISE).

Spoken language is foundational to written language, and individual differences in early spoken language ability strongly predict later reading skill. In this theme will include learners from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The study of semantic understanding at multiple levels, including within the context of digitally-presented reading materials, will be a central focus.
