Anne-Michelle Tessier is a developmental linguist who specializes in phonological acquisition as well as formal linguistic theories and language learnability. Her research includes analyses of corpus data from child speech production, behavioral experiments including nonce words, alien speech, and rhyme judgments, computational simulations of L1 and L2 learning, as well as neurological measures of later phonological development (via fNIRS), in both typically developing children and those using cochlear implants. Her current and recent SSHRC Insight grants focus on child ESL learning and accent accommodation, and on the development of complex phonological mental representations using artificial language learning and visual world eye tracking experiments.
