Colin Phillips’ research focuses on cognitive and neural processes involved in speaking and understanding, especially informed by issues of linguistic diversity. In recent years he has explored topics involving linguistic illusions, memory encoding and access, and prediction and speech planning. The Language Science Center supports research, education, and public engagement efforts on the fundamental science of language and applications in education, technology, and health. Founded in 2013, it builds on grassroots community-building efforts in language science that go back at least 15 years, together with NSF-supported training grants that have trained 100 PhD students from 10 departments.
