Ludo Verhoeven’s research program has a primary focus on the relation between language and literacy in typical and atypical learners. His research has complementary goals of contributing to the science of learning to read and advancing the application of reading research to multilingual environments. In line with this educational application goal, he is co-founder and scientific director of the National Literacy Education Center in the Netherlands. Ludo is also engaged in training a new generation of researchers in reading, as co-founder and current director of the International Summer School on Literacy Acquisition, which has hosted over 200 PhD students in week-long programs presenting reading research from all over the world.
