Rachel Chen
Summer Research Assistant, Language and Literacy Lab
Dalhousie University
Rachel finished her third year of BSc in Psychology at Dalhousie University and is currently a summer research assistant at the Language and Literacy Lab. She will also be completing her Honours thesis under the supervision of Drs. Klaudia Krenca and Hélène Deacon in the fall and winter semesters. Currently, Rachel is assisting Dr. Hélène Deacon on a longitudinal project, Leaps and Bounds. This study focuses on how children’s oral language skills support their reading comprehension, specifically how children’s awareness of sentences can help support their literacy skills across the elementary grades. Rachel is looking forward to learning more about this project and hopes this study yields important implications for educators and researchers to increase children’s understanding of literacy.
