Storybooks Canada is a free interactive web platform for families, teachers, and community members that aims to promote multilingualism in Canada. We have made available 40 open access digital storybooks – intended for school-aged children – in the major immigrant and refugee languages of Canada, as well as in English and French, our country’s official languages. Hence, a story that a child reads in English or French at school can also be read in their mother tongue at home. Storybooks Canada therefore helps children to learn one of Canada’s official languages, while also maintaining their mother tongue in both oral and written form. Furthermore, we offer audio versions of the stories to help beginning readers and language learners make the important connection between speech and text.
