Émilie’s academic background is focused on improving children’s language development. In collaboration with the Language and Literacy Lab and the Canadian Children Literacy Foundation, she is working on a large-scale survey that assesses how parents support their children’s language and literacy skills at home in both print and screen-based reading. Émilie is also conducting research that focuses on how morphosyntax influences children’s language comprehension using linguistic tasks and neurocognitive techniques. For her postdoctoral project supervised by Dr. Hélène Deacon, she will study the role of pronouns in English and French text comprehension in children with and without dyslexia, as assessed by regular reading tasks and eye tracking. In her doctoral dissertation, Émilie investigated the processing of subject-verb agreement in orally presented sentences in French-speaking adolescents with and without developmental language disorders, using the event-related potentials technique.
