Suzanne Stevenson

Professor of Computer Science

University of Toronto

Suzanne Stevenson takes a computational cognitive modeling approach to the study of language acquisition and language processing, through collaborations with linguists, psychologists, and computer scientists.  Among other topics, her research spans child word learning, the nature of word meaning representations, the impact of bilingualism on learned linguistic knowledge, and the role of participants’ differing points of view in linguistic interaction.  She looks forward to collaborations on the SSHRC PG that could further elucidate how the universal nature of meaning is shaped by different languages individually and in bilinguals, and how people reconcile differing linguistic and cultural perspectives to achieve effective communication.
