Carla Hudson Kam’s primary expertise is in experimental methods to explore learning in adults and children, with a focus on the relationship between the input a learner receives and what ends up being learned. More recently she has been working with naturalistic data, asking about the information present in children’s everyday experiences. As part of this newer work, she has a project looking at the content of children’s picture books and how they might support specific kinds of language and concept learning. She is planning on extending this work to examine how early book-reading experiences impact children’s readiness to learn to read and is very much looking forward to collaborating with other team members on a variety of topics.
