We at Shoelace Learning create innovative, immersive online platforms to improve children’s reading skills through play. Our applications (Dreamscape for those in grades 3-6) are designed by educators and gaming experts in Canada, and are currently being used in more than 50,000 educational institutions across the world. The objectives of the grant are aligned perfectly with our mission to harness the power of digital technology to help young children – at all reading levels, and from diverse backgrounds – develop and improve their literacy skills. We recognize that partnerships of this kind – between researchers, tech experts, educators, and the community – are absolutely necessary to meet our goals. We look forward to being able to use the grant’s findings in the further development of our own materials, including for more diverse groups of learners.
